So the other day one of my good friends made a comment about how I post photos of myself with ease, and how it wasn’t easy for her to post photos of herself. She was worried about being perceived as vain. Kinda pissed me off to be honest. Not at her but FOR her. Because she’s listening to the noise. Why aren’t we allowed to like ourselves? Homegirl, who told you you can’t? Everyday I get to be an Instagram model, I make myself the subject of my art whether in my books or my feed. I’m sure you can tell I’m quite taken with myself. But I’m taken with you too. Don’t dance like a monkey for them. Why are you letting people’s opinions make you so tired? You get this one shitty, beautiful, tragic, lonely life. Be whoever the fuck you want to be. And do it without apology. Please! I literally don’t care what you think of me right now. Good or bad. I don’t care. I can’t be deflated or inflated. Because my confidence doesn’t rest in you. For every woman reading this post, you aren’t just a mother, or a barren woman, or career-less, or talentless, or simple, or beige, or crazy. You have art inside of you. You do. Water it, nurture it, don’t be ashamed of expressing it. This is rise of the woman, stand up. Stand up. Stand up. Stand up.
